I was mortal, but am fiend. I was merciless, but am pitiful. Thou dost feel that I shudder. My teeth chatter as I speak, yet it is not with the chilliness of the night - of the night without end. But the hideousness is insufferable. How canst thou tranquilly sleep?

portionsofeternity:

The major struggle of a prose writer who seeks to craft a universal insight into our human condition is expressing the complex and abstract emotions that we, or those of us who are sensitive enough to them, feel on a regular basis. Most cannot simply trap these emotions in one word or a sentence, and very rarely in a paragraph. To express these things one must view their writing almost as a painting. Each word, sentence or chapter must be a stroke on the canvas, and only once the piece is finished and viewed in its entirety can these feelings be properly expressed by a piece of writing. One stroke alone will very rarely illustrate everything you are trying to communicate. Those among us who have accurately expressed something so complex in few words have achieved the purest form of poetic art. Even in the climax of their expression, when all becomes apparent, the reader knows that every line, every shadow, every twist was needed to create this moment. .
