I wish I could find some great and open-minded people to play with

They don’t have to be super good, cuz I’m sure as hell not! I miss playing with a group (orchestra or rock band) and writing by yourself is damn hard and tedious, or at least notating what’s in my head is hard . . repeating it and putting it on paper. Major respect to good songwriters!
